It's baa-aack...

...the Viper, newly redesigned and re-engineered (and re-branded an SRT) is now rolling off the assembly line at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.

Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne, SRT Brand President and CEO Ralph Gilles, and employees of the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant presented 2013 SRT Viper #001 to owner Scott Thomas during a ceremony at the plant on Thursday, January 10,  to celebrate the start of SRT Viper production.

Thomas--an avid car collector, lives in Oklahoma City, OK--purchased the first production Viper at a collector-car auction in California last June, with the proceeds benefiting the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

As part of Marchionne’s visit to the plant, the Viper team dedicated the final line to former Chrysler Group Senior Vice President Dan Knott, who passed away in 2012, by unveiling a plaque in his honor with the quote, “Today, we are a real car company again.” Knott, who served as Vice President of the SRT Product Team and was instrumental in the development of past generations of the Viper, made the statement on August 22, 2010, the day the 2013 Viper program was approved.


Chrysler Group LLC’s Conner Avenue Assembly Plant is the home of the SRT Viper.  Nearly 150 employees hand build 12 of the legendary American muscle cars each day.  The Conner Avenue plant, located in Detroit, has been building the Viper since 1992.

Idled in July of 2010, the Conner Avenue plant has spent the past year having every inch of its 400,000 square feet refurbished.Although it now looks like a modern, state-of-the-art assembly plant, Conner Avenue Assembly still maintains the handcrafted build process that added to Viper's mystique when it began production in 1992. Nearly 150 specially-selected employees meticulously assemble each component on 12 vehicles daily, with complete attention to detail and quality.

The new Viper returns to the market with more power and performance from its all-aluminum, mid-front 8.4-liter V10 engine that delivers 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, to go along with superior craftsmanship, new technologies and creature comforts.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2013 SRT Viper is $97,395 (excluding $1,995 destination).

Shipments to customers will begin next month, to ensure that every Viper meets the Company’s stringent quality standards before it leaves the plant.
