How hot is the Mike Savage-driven Candies & Hughes "tribute" '71 Plymouth 'Cuda Funny Car?
Come on in for a look at just how hot IHRA's new Prostalgia FC points leader is!
A near-record crowd showed up at Rocky Mountain Raceways outside Salt Lake City to witness one of the biggest NAPA Nitro Jams yet on the 2012 schedule.
When the smoke had cleared in the popular Prostalgia Funny Car eliminator, a familiar car was in victory circle both Friday and Saturday – Jim Broome’s 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda funny car, and its pilot, Mike Savage of Tucson, Arizona.

The car, lettered for famed Louisiana duo Candies & Hughes, had been upset from atop the AMSOIL-backed points standings by Peter Gallen and the Poverty Stricken team, but Savage garnered the maximum amount possible with his back-to-back titles. (The weekend's format featured two eliminator rounds during the two evenings of action).
With a largest-ever field of eight entries on hand, it was not an easy stretch to double-up. Nonetheless, on Friday, Savage and the ‘Cuda took a bite out of Bob Godfrey and the Burn N Money ’69 Bowtie. When the tires stopped churning on Saturday evening, Jason Rupert was on the receiving end of a 6.007 best-of-the-weekend run by Savage, which allowed the popular Cajun ‘Cuda to garner two Iron Man honors in two evenings.
IHRA's NAPA Nitro Jam series has just three events left in 2012 – two in Canada (both sponsored by Mopar), and one in Michigan, ending in early August. It would be impressive to see Savage and the historic Plymouth tribute to the golden age of 1970s fuel racing take home a championship for this year!
