As part of the debut of the Dart Pro Stockers, Mopar and also unveiled a special 50th Anniversary Dodge Charger R/T funny car body for Matt Hagan of the DSR racing team. Hagan, who was the NHRA Funny Car World Champion in 2011, will use this special version at the Mopar-sponsored race in Denver and the U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend.
The body wrap features a rendering of a raging elephant, the 50th Anniversary HEMI logo, and unique graphics like the HEMI-specific valve covers and other cues. As most fans know, the engine was given the ‘elephant’ moniker due to its hefty overall dimensions, throaty sound, and outstanding performance. Dominant since 1964 wherever the rules allowed, the engine’s 50th Anniversary is being celebrated in various ways through the 2014 season by Mopar. In a media event at Two Tails Ranch in nearby Williston on March 13th, the car was unveiled with a live elephant named Luke, who posed in classic form to give further reputation to the HEMI as the pachyderm of performance for a half-century.
