Do you collect Mopar diecasts? Here's a new 1/18-scale one that's now available for pre-order from Supercar Collectibles, depicting one of the rides that Minnesota native Tom Hoover drove during his career (which will be honored by his induction into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame this spring during Gatornationals weekend).
In the early 1970s, Minnesota drag racer Tom Hoover--who'd started out in dragsters, then moved to Funny Cars--drove a '71 Dodge Charger-bodied Funny Car, sponsored by White Bear Dodge in White Bear Lake, MN (just north of St. Paul).
Now, Supercar Collectibles offers this 1/18-scale diecast of that car, made by Auto World with details like race day paint and graphics, lift-up body, detailed Race Hemi engine with supercharger, plug wires, complete fuel lines and system, cloth race belts, and parachute. Plus, it'll come in special race-theme packaging.
Pre-order it now, and it's only $89.95 (with free shipping and only a $3 handling charge (for packaging materials), same for single-car or multi-car shipments)--your credit card won't be billed until they're shipping, which Supercar Collectibles says should be sometime in April.
Tom Hoover (the racer, not the legendary Chrysler engineer with the same name) is also known for the "Showtime" AA/FC's he drove as part of a family-run race team. His dad, George ("Pa") did the tuning, and--over a 30-year driving career--Tom won five NHRA national events, and won the AHRA's World Championship in 1976.
Add this flip-top Charger to your diecast collection, and it (or, at least the part of it where your Funny Car diecasts are) will look even more like the pits at one of the legendary "64 FUNNY CARS!" shows at the legendary Orange County International Raceway!
