If you're an avid reader of Mopar Muscle magazine, then you certainly know about our '64 Dodge Nostalgia Super Stock drag race project.
Well, we wanted to debut the car at the Mopar Muscle Southern Nationals, and we did, but what we didn't have time to do is install the roll cage. In fact, we got the windshield put in Thursday afternoon, drove down the road a bit to make sure the brakes worked, and loaded it on the trailer for the show.
On Saturday, we entered in the street class since that was one of the only classes running the quarter mile. Realistically, we figured the car would run in the 11s, but we got a big surprise. Leaving soft on the drag radials (and guessing on tire pressure) we ran a 10.31 second elapsed time on our first pass at nearly 130 mph. Even better, the car went straight down the track with no problems. Without a cage we couldn't run the car in competition, but we were happy with the results, especially since this car is running in street trim, through the mufflers, on pump gas, with an air cleaner installed, and on DOT tires.
Just wait, with a little tuning we should run ten seconds flat even after we install the roll cage . . . hey Super Chevy, don't you have some Nova you're working on? We'll give up the cubes to your 509 and challenge you to a race any time you want! And we don't need to "correct" our numbers.
Run what you brung!!!!
See you at the track,
