Whether its a local cruise night or a national car show, we've all seen many different combinations. Show cars. Race cars. Cars that show and go. Big blocks in small cars. Even Brand X engines in Brand Y bodies. At the 2011 HOT ROD Power Tour stop in Cocoa Beach, Florida we saw.....well....ya just have to see it to believe it!
We have to admit that once in a while we can be a little jaded working for a publisher of car magazines. We think we've seen it all. Luckily though, we can still be surprised. Take for example this Ray Barton-built 572 ci blown hemi stuffed into a Rolls Royce. Ya, thats right. This 1970 Rolls Royce has some serious muscle stuffed under the hood. Well, under isn't the right word but you get the idea. If the laser-engraved stainless steel dash card--ok, dash plaque--is accurate, then 1350 hp gets the luxury car up to speed in a big hurry. The hemi is not only blown but has a 500 shot of nitrous to help it on its path. And what Rolls would be complete without a luxurious leather-wrapped interior. Right down to the rollcage needed to keep the passengers safe. The leather treatment continues to the trunk making the batteries and fuel cell as much about luxury as they are about feeding the beast up front. That beast drinks at the rate of 3 mpg and with current gas prices, sadly the one-of-a-kind Rolls Royce Hemi won't be a Long Hauler on the Power Tour. We're glad we got to see it and we certainly hope this isn't the last time we're surprised at a car show!
