We were a little sad to leave the Power Tour in Montgomery, but still had a long ride ahead of us.
We aren't sure how many of you follow our blogs, but if you have you know we took a last minute group of Mopars and invaded the Hot Rod Power Tour this year. And while we would have loved to continue on to Nashville, Indy, and up to Michigan, deadlines and a heavy workload required that we leave the tour in Montgomery, Alabama and head back to Florida.
So far, our ride has been pretty uneventful, aside from hot weather and a minor carb issue that for an instant had us wondering if we could complete our mission. Fortunately, a quick gas station repair job had us back on the road, and we made Montgomery in plenty of time to check out the cars, drag racing, dyno, and genuinely good folks on the tour.
Leaving Montgomery early in the morning, the weather was nice with a cool breeze blowing and clear skies. We knew as the day went on and we got further south that it would heat up, meaning the van would be a hot ride with no a/c. Even so, our well-insulated vehicle stayed pretty cool with good insulation so long as we were moving. Sitting in traffic, however, was not much fun, and we're sure our sweat soaking into the cushy foam seats was only adding to the already suspect odor of the van's interior.
Chris and Brandon had left the night before, and a phone call verified they made it back to Lakeland, Florida without incident. Paul was cruising with us, and once we crossed the Florida line we felt some relief knowing we'd made it back to our home state. A couple hours later we pulled into the parking lot at Inline Performance to drop Garret off and complete the last leg of the trip.
If you haven't experienced the Hot Rod Power Tour, we encourage you to make plans to attend next year. We'll be invading again and hope to represent the Mopar brand well, maybe in the van or maybe in another of our project vehicles, but most likely in the van. One thing is certain though, if we can't get the factory air fixed, you'll see us dragging a generator on a trailer with a window a/c unit where one of the back windows was. Why can't they do this in March when it's cooler??????
