They did it....the Lee Sicilio-driven #1001 '69 Dodge Charger Daytona set a new Production-class record on the Salt at Bonneville...one that beat the previous mark by nearly 3 mph!
When we first brought you this story, the #1001 Charger Daytona had made the "down" run on the Bonneville Salt Flats during this year's Bonneville Speed Week, but had not made the return run needed to back up their previous times
Per the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) and the Bonneville Nationals Inc. (BNI), the aerowarrior B-Body (with a Ray Barton-built Hemi providing the power) made its return run and tripped the timers thusly:
Mile 2: 201.549 mph
1/4 (Qrt*): 215.928
Mile 3: 221.253
Mile 4: 231.136
Mile 5: 235.577
Exit: 236.763
(* = first 1/4-mile of Mile 2)
Average Speed: 238.160 mph....a new A/PROduction class record!
