It's Speed Weeks Time on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats, and one Hemi-powered B-Body is looking to set new Production class records.
From the looks of it, they're just about there.
The car is the #1001 '69 Charger Daytona driven by Lee Sicilio, with a Ray Barton-built 498-inch Hemi under the hood.
Earlier this week, it made two one-way runs on the Salt's long course, running in two different class configurations (A/PRO and AA/PRO). Since it didn't make return runs, these speeds aren't official class records:
Class: AA/PROduction
1/4-mile: 205.478 mph
Mile 1: 212:491
Mile 2: 226.227
Mile 3: 232.965
Exit: 234.827
Class A/PROduction
1/4-Mile: 218.870 mph
Mile 1: 224.779
Mile 2: 236.096
Mile 3: 240.743
Exit: 242.160
But there's still three days left in the meet for them to get the Daytona dialed in, make down and return runs within the time that the SCTA allows, and set new Production class records.
See how they're running (and everyone else who's on the Salt this year) on the Southern California Timing Association/Bonneville Nationals Inc. (SCTA-BNI) website at www.scta-bni.org.
