How's this for "high-zoot?"
DeSoto...Ma Mopar's "medium-price" brand that competed against Oldsmobile and Mercury...and sponsored Groucho Marx' long-running You Bet Your Life comedy/game show on NBC Radio and TV.
All of 'em (except for the Firesweep series) were powered by the DeSoto "Firedome" V8, that brand's version of the early Hemi.
There's a bunch of 'em going up for bids at the "'57 Heaven" museum close-out auction happening at the Dick Clark Museum in Branson, Missouri on October 24th, conducted by Mecum Auctions.
That's the DeSoto Adventurer convertible (above), one of a special mid-year pair of specially equipped/trimmed DeSotos...and one of two going up for bids at Branson.
There's also this Hemi-powered Adventurer hardtop crossing the block.
When the '57 model run began, the DeSoto Fireflite (built on the same platform as the big Chryslers) was top-of-the-line, and this Hemi-powered Fireflite convertible is in the Branson "'57 Heaven" auction:
Middle of the DeSoto line was the Firedome series, and this Firedome droptop is also going up for bids, at no reserve. (Yeah, it's got an early Hemi.)
The "most affordable" DeSoto series back then was the new-for'57 Firesweep, built on the Dodge platform. Here's a Firesweep wagon that can be yours if you're the high bidder on it at Branson.
Also up for bids: this laminated DeSoto magazine ad from back then.
