A while back, I told you of one of life's great mysteries: How the sound of the 383 aboard the black-and-white got cranked up during the opening of the third season of the TV cop drama Adam-12, which aired on NBC-TV during the 1970-71 prime-time season.
Now that Shout! Factory has released that season on DVD, I've found the answer.
To recap, the possible answers are:
A) Because the technician at the sound board at NBC-TV's master control in New York cranked it up.
B) Because the technician at my local NBC-TV affiliate in Syracuse, NY back then (WSYR-TV, channel 3) cranked it up.
C) Because the sound editor cranked it up during post-production.
The answer, of course is D) All of the above!
As soon as I can figure out how to do some screen grabs from DVD to here, I'll post some from that season that are especially of interest to Mopar folks. (Including some from the episode "Cigarettes, Cars, And Wild, Wild Women"!)
