Ever find yourself on the side of the road w
ishing you had performed some preventative maintenance?
We all hate spending money we don't have to, but sometimes it can save you in the long run. Coming from the world of aviation, every part of an airplane has a life limit and must be replaced at or before that limit. It's because it's harder to pull an airplane over if the engine or some other vital part quits . . . but I digress.
At 195,000 miles, I kind of figured my Cummins diesel engine would need an injector pump. And when friend and owner of Inline Performance Tod Struck told me "The injector pump will go around 150,000 miles", I figured well, I can milk mine to 200,000 miles. I guess I was closer than Tod as it went 195,000 miles, but if I had taken his advice and replaced it at 150k, I wouldn't have been stranded north of Daytona Beach coming home from a recent trip.
Thankfully, Tod and Garret from Inline Performance came to the rescue, even loaning me a truck to complete the trip while they repaired mine. Thanks guys, and next time I'll take your word and do the maintenance in advance.
