This one kinda snuck in to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit without any advance hype...but is a welcome sight anyway:

The 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic.

Thanks to Automotive News, we're getting this first-look at the Challenger R/T Classic.

Due in late February/early March: the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic. (Courtesy Automotive News/www.autonews.com)

What's "classic" about it is the retro-'71-style R/T striping that's just under the belt line, from the front fender to the rear quarter window ), and the "Challenger" script on the front fenders.

Did someone at Chrysler get the idea for this from seeing Dave Young's R/T? THose stripes look VERY familiar! (Courtesy Automotive News/www.autonews.com)

Also "Classic": The choice of colors: Hemi Orange and Tor-Red to begin with, while B5 Blue and other Challenger colors, available on the R/T Classic in March.

Power? Yes indeed! 372 horsepower if you choose the Hemi/automatic combo, or 375 HP if you opt for the Hemi and a six-speed manual transmission.

Oh...and Automotive News also reports that the Challenger R/T Classic will be the only Challenger R/T with a working hood scoop..

Wonder where they got the idea to do this version....maybe they caught a peek at Dave Young's R/T after he had those stripes put on it?
